When selecting timbers in the commissioning of our outdoor furniture, each piece is hand picked to ensure it is of the highest quality. At Imagineering we use only sustainably grown (often referred to as 'community') timbers.

At Imagineering we recommend protective coatings be applied at the time of furniture manufacture, which we can do for you during commissioning of your set. Additionally this can also be done as the coating fades over time (generally 18 - 24 months if left in full sunlight). Protective coatings not only enhance your timbers natural colours but also inhibit the growth of fungus and general deterioration of the timbers.

Timber left in its untreated 'natural' state will begin to turn a silver colour as its natural oil bleachs out from the weathering process (over a period of 18 - 24 months) and small cracks may appear near the ends of the timber as it loses its moisture.

The illustration to the right shows the different levels of opacity (transparency) of protective coatings that can be applied. For each type there are dozens of different tints available, with the best way to choose being to select the opacity and then contact us at Imagineering or a retail store such as Mitre 10 for a comprehensive selection of tints.

Please note; when choosing your specific tint it is important to choose it in relation to your timber type, as different timbers will affect the finished tint (for example a stain applied to a light coloured timber such as Vitex will have a lighter tint than if the same stain was applied to a darker timber such as Kwila). At Imagineering we have various tints applied to various timbers to ilustrate this and help you in your selection.
